a different twist

so...funny. this will be a short post but you'll see why momentarily.

i got on to blog this little request, and saw my last post, "blood on my hands", and had to laugh. today, at work, i cut off the top of my right index finger.

Not to worry. it's still there! you know when you're dicing potatoes, and even though you make a clean cut all the way through, the potato slice still sticks to the rest of the potato? that's what the tip of my finger did. yay for that sticky carbon-based tissue.

i turned a deep shade of white (i CAN get more white than i already am, believe it or not!!) and felt like vomiting, but i ran cold water over it and kept it above my heart and, after about twenty minutes, i was able to finish the next three hours of work (the body is an amazing thing!). now i'm home and feeling okay, knowing that my work now is to keep my finger clean, dry, and healing, so i thought i'd request a little help from those of you that read this: please just imagine me with a healthy, completely intact right index finger, all nerves functioning properly, and a gorgeous, shiny fingernail covering pearly pink flesh. i get so much more out of these collaborative efforts. thanks, y'all.

okay amy, i'll envision your healthy finger, but what I cannot understand is what the HELL possessed you to STAY at work for the following three hours?!

shock can have strange effects on the mind, i suppose (like, it shuts it down!). and i guess i gained some sort of comfort by staying at work rather than going home and freaking out that my finger might fall off. after all, 99% of my body is still entirely functional!
